1. Agree on an unambiguous time
If you live in different time zones, avoid just saying ‘eight tonight’. Include the city or time zone and check that it works for your partner. Keep the surprise by saying ‘I made something for us to open together’ without revealing the setting.
2. Plan three small stops
At the first stop, revisit an old photograph. At the second, ask a question you have not discussed before. At the last, decide on one thing to do at your next in-person meeting. The virtual island provides the setting; you can keep talking through your usual voice-call app.
3. Check the song before the date
After adding a YouTube link, open it on your device. Availability can vary by country, account and embedding restrictions. If sound does not start automatically, press play together. Let the photographs carry the gift even if the music is unavailable.
4. Leave the ending open
You do not have to visit every photograph in one evening. Save a few for another date. When using personal photos, consider access settings together; making a surprise does not mean making someone’s private memories public.
Your next small step
Start with your own words and memories. Then try the setting you have chosen and see whether the actual experience fits your idea before buying.
